Swimming Swimming and more Swimming
We've done a lot of swimming this past week. We had some friends come over and we all went swimming together:
And I got bold and took Georgie is the water for the first time. Dipped her 3 times.
We also went swimming at the Rec Center here in Lake Jackson which has a super fun pool.
Going down the slide at the Rec Center:
Maeby and Jeremy had a papa, Maeby swim date and he took some video too.

The Great Muppet Caper
The Alamo Draft house is a movie theater in Houston who has started a kids club where once a month they screen kids movies for families for free. This month was "The Great Muppet Caper"
There were lots of fun things to do - including a Fozzie Bear stand up joke contest "Waka Waka Waka" was all Maeby could say :)
Maeby really liked having real food we could order and eat at our table.
Afterwards we'd met this family who has a son and the kids hit it off. We hung out talking at the theater for a bit but when that got old we moved to a park and then ended up hanging out for like 9 hours. Hope to see them again soon. So nice for Maeby to find a friend she can really play with.
Very fun day, can't wait until next month!
Lake Jackson Museum
We visited the local museum with some people from church, which was actually more fun then I was expecting it to be. They have a great play area and everything is very kid friendly and hands on.
They have a cockpit for kids to play in and the screen actually moves according to how they steer the plane. Yes, you can make the plane crash but no, there aren't any cool effects when you do.
Most of the museum is various animatronic characters talking about how Lake Jackson was created as a place for the DOW employees to live with their families. (DOW has an enormous factory in Freeport which is just 8 miles or so away)
Nice to have a free, low key, family friendly, air conditioned place to take Maeby.

Skyping w/Lilly
Its been a hard adjustment moving to Texas - especially since Maeby cannot go play with all of her friends like she's used to. We haven't made any friends here yet but we were able to Skype with our good friend Lilly. It was so cute - they ended up bringing each other just about every toy they had and played for almost an hour on the computer. Can't wait to do it again!
Video of the Sea Center
Here in Lake Jackson is a place called The Sea Center which is basically a free small aquarium where they do research etc. We plan on visiting this place a lot - so i'm sure that you'll see various pictures of this place. Here is a video of Maeby at one of the tanks.

Hummingbird Xtravaganza!
One of the nearby Wildlife refuges has a huge birding weekend. This past weekend they were catching and tagging red throatily hummingbirds which are TINY. It was really fun to go see and see all the other things they have there.
There ARE in fact a couple tiny hummingbirds in this picture:
This is just down the street - within walking distance - of our house. It is beautiful! Just walking around the ponds and on some of their pathways.
Jeremy & Maeby watching as they tag, weigh, measure and log each of the hummingbirds they catch:
There were several little booths - one of them had 2 baby alligators that they allowed people to pet. It was terrifying to be so close even though they were just babies. Alligators are all over down here.
Maeby's favorite was the lady who had the turtles. She was allowed to hold them, touch both adults and babies.
We're really excited to go to more of these events. For more pictures of the xtravaganza & pictures that show are area a little more click here.
going away party
This is a little out of order, but I just found where these pictures were saved and thought I'd post a couple.
These are from our going away BBQ we had in Corvallis before we left. We've really been missing friends and family (and friends who became family) and just wanted to thank everyone in Corvallis who gave us so much love, support, guidance, sanity, strength and joy in our all too short time there.

Galveston
The last day my mom was out here we went to Galveston Island which is about an hour from our house.
We didn't spend a TON of time there (we were all pretty exhausted) but there are some amazing old buildings:
Our favorite thing was taking the free ferry ride. It was Maeby & Georgie's first ferry ride (I know, being from Washington that's abominable its taken this long)
There are a lot of oil rigs and ships etc in this area. Not to mention dolphins that were following our ferry.
We tried to play on the beach, but Tropical Storm Lee was making it far too windy despite it totally keeping its distance otherwise from where we live.
We barely scratched the surface of this place and look forward to many more visits to discover some of these cool places and play on the soft sandy beaches!
