Colorado

Last month, we went on a camping trip (RV) in Colorado with Grandma. We spent about 10 days enjoying the mountainous region, visiting 2 National Parks and several sights of general interest.

Here we are on our first night in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Mae and Grandma are great friends, and enjoyed many walks together at the various campgrounds we stayed at, mostly collecting sticks and rocks. That kid never met a rock she didn't like.

Discovering a caterpillar. "A bug!" she squeals. She's also very into bugs right now, and will wave enthusiastically at them and whisper things like "are you all right?"

Grandma bought her a pair of Woody and Buzz boots. They are her favorite thing ever.

Throwing rocks in the water (Mae's preferred activity pretty much wherever we are, from reservoirs to mud puddles in front of our apartment)

"night-night," she says.

In Rocky Mountain National Park. The park got 12 inches of snow while we there. In June. Here, Mae is enjoying the best purchase we ever made: a Kelty 3.0 child-carrier. I'm totally happy plugging that product here, as it saved our sanity on this trip. Mae loves it - at least, most of the time. (note: we paid way less than that)

We also let Mae walk a lot of the time on our hikes, mostly to tire her out.

Ah . . . warm June weather.

In December, she couldn't get enough of the snow. Here, though, she would just get furious when it got on her new boots.

Nymph Lake.

Adams' Falls.

I like how the carrier really accentuates my stomach fat.

This hike took about four hours. She refused to sleep the entire time. This was taken 20 feet from the trail-head, just as we were finishing.

Enjoying a half-roasted chocolate marshmallow

This is a Marmot - Mae's new favorite animal. She calls them her "buddies," and calls out, "are you okay?" every time they pop out of their dens. We bought her a stuffed Marmot at the gift shop, which she promptly named "Buddy," and which now accompanies her everywhere.

On this hike, she decided she needed to stop and touch every tree we passed.

Here we are at Hot Sulphur Springs, a natural spring resort. Mae was not overly fond of the experience . . .

. . . until she discovered this pool.

These next few pics were taken at Flaming Gorge, in Utah.

Fishing with Grandma in the trout pond.

She HATED the fish.

Decorating the rocks at our campsite.

"Night-night"

Watching a movie with Grandma. Personally, I prefer tent camping any day of the week, but the RV is nice when you have a toddler
