County Fair

We went to the Brazoria County Fair a couple weeks ago. It was small, low key but a lot of fun. They had a TON of rides for little kids so we just let Maeby go to town.

Utah Part 3 - RV Trip to Zion, St. George & Great Basin

A major portion of our trip to Utah was an RV trip to Zion National Park, St. Georgie, Pioche, Nevada, and Great Basin National Park.

We spent 2 days in Zion National Park

We also stopped at the Mountain Meadows Monument since we'd never been there and have lots of family history associate with what happened here.

We spent a day in St. George looking for a festival to celebrate the cotton mission coming to the area, but either we missed it or there wasn't anything to see so we didn't find anything like that. BUT we did find an awesome water area in the middle of town square where Mae played for hours (go figure). It was a really HOT day too.

There was also a merry-go-round which was a first for Georgie

We also visited the St. George Temple and visitor's center

We spent some time at the country store in Virgin, Utah where one of Jeremy's ancestors who Jeremy's mom is writing a book about lived for a time.

We headed to Pioche, Nevada to do some family history research on the same ancestor. There are pictures but it's better to envision the idea of a small almost ghost town in the wilds of eastern Nevada :) No joke. If you want to see pictures - view the slideshow.

Our last stop was at Great Basin National Park which was a new place for us.

Really the only thing to do there is visit Lehman caves which were cool. If you were to ask Maeby she'd tell you about how scared she was and how she cried and cried at first and made Grandma hold her but then she became brave and it was fun. Thankfully we had a good group of people with us on the tour and an awesome ranger who gave Maeby a flashlight and really helped her feel better. The best part was when Maeby was trying to comfort Georgie (who slept through the whole thing) by singing to her while Maeby's little body shook with terror at being in the caves. So sad and sweet at the same time.

It was a long, exhausting trip but we got some good family history information and saw some cool new things, revisited old things and enjoyed campfires and each other's company.

Utah Part 2 - Kick'n it in SLC area

We did LOTS of different activities while we were in Utah. There were a lot of things Halloween/Harvest related.

The following is NOT in order - but we did it all!

We went back to Gardner Village with the girls dressed up:

There was a harvest festival at Thanksgiving Point called Cornbelly's. It was a blast!

We went to a local barn just to pet some horses. There was a young foal there who was very friendly:

The country store next to the barn has a mechanical horse that Maeby LOVES!

We also got to visit a lot of old friends we don't get to see nearly enough!

for her birthday Mindy & Josh gave Maeby a doctor kit with a shirt - she wore it much of the time we were in Utah.

We got to see Uncle David a couple times. Both girls just adore him!

We also spent some time at Temple Square. For those who don't know, this is where the LDS Salt Lake City Temple is located as well as the Tabernacle, homes of Brigham Young, Family History Museum, Hotel Utah (aka: Joseph Smith Building), church administrative offices, Conference Center and many other historical building, statues etc are.

Needless to say - we tuckered those girls out just about every day :)
